The Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association ASCER is launching the eleventh Tile of Spain Awards in Architecture and Interior Design. This Competition is designed to recognize a piece of work in the field of architecture and interior design which uses ceramic tiles made in Spain. The competition will distinguish the building work which best enhance the new applications, advantages and versatility of this material as well reflects the most innovative reinterpretation of ceramics in architectural and decorative projects. (download PDF document) RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Candidates The competition is open to any person, entity or institution, either individually or as a team. They have to submit their piece of work providing the conditions indicated below. Submissions may be made either on the candidate’s own initiative or at the behest of the promoters of the Awards. Professional architects, interior designers, architectural engineers, landscape designers and decorators of all nationalities can be in for the Tile of Spain Award. 2. Conditions of entry Architectural and interior projects presented can be placed all over the world. They will use ceramic tiles from Spanish firms such in pavements, walls and/or in facades. Tiles are the kind of products represented by ASCER. - Professional entries must indicate the submittal category they are attached: - Architecture: new buildings, renovation or refurbishment of existing buildings and interventions in urban redevelopment or outdoor landscapes - Interior design: decoration of interior spaces in new buildings, as part of improvement or refurbishment projects, or installations created for short term events. - The jury reserves the right to classify the entries. ASCER will designate a technic committee who will check the fulfillment of the requirements established in the competition rules. - Projects entered for the competition must make substantial use of Spanish ceramic floor and/or wall tiles in the formal part of the building. - Entries may have been undertaken anywhere in the world. - The projects must have been completed between January 2011 and October 2012. - Candidates are considered to have accepted the competition’s conditions of entry. 3. Submission of entries The following documentation must be submitted: - Registration form. The registration form should be sent with the rest of the documentation to the Awards Office (ASCER. C/ Ginjols, 3. Castellón, SPAIN) before the 23rd October of 2012. Download the form. - Construction specifications. A brief program statement addressing the goals and describing the project (maximum 600 words). It must be clearly indicated the kind of ceramic product used and the manufacturer’s brand name. This description must be presented as a binding A4 document and submitted along with the architect or interior designer’s Curriculum Vitae or the studio’s credentials. The design firm name, postal address, telephone number and e-mail address must be provided in the document. - Visual and graphic images. Entries must include between 5 or 8 A3 boards with good quality photographs showing the finished project from different angles (1 photograph per panel if possible). Descriptive text and details of plans may also be included on the boards. It is imperative to include at least one image that shows specifically how the ceramic tiles have been used in the project. All photographs must be free from rights of reproduction. The title of the project and the designer’s name should be clearly written on every board. - A set of drawings describing the project (plans, elevations, sections and details) should be provided on paper. - A CD containing: all the images of the boards in 300 dpi digital format (jpg or tiff), the set of drawings in digital format (eps, pdf, jpg or tiff), photograph(s) of the designer(s) and the description of the project (doc or pdf). All documentation sent in should be clearly identified with the title of the project and the name(s) of the designer(s). 4. Prizes First- place designers will be awarded in each of the following categories: - Architecture: 18,000 € - Interior design: 18,000 € The jurors may reserve the right to name special mentions in either of both categories in order to enhance the specific characteristics among others projects. There will be a maximum of two mentions. The retention under the current tax legislation will be applied to the amount of each award. The awarded projects and those distinguish as mentions, will be published in the official competition web as well as in the magazine CERASPAÑA. Besides, they will be used for other activities of promotion organized by the Association. Besides, some project images will be included in every new edition of the book Architectural Ceramics along with in different ASCER publications. The jury might select as many entries as it considers as finalists in each category. A list of these projects will be included on the official competition website along with other publications. 5. Jury Each entry will be reviewed by a jury under the rules posted in the conditions. See the composition of the jury. The jury will be formed by architects and interior designers with expertise in the field. The jury will be tasked with the following duties: - Judging the entries. In its written account of its judgement the jury will give the reasons for its decisions and each member may give the reasons for his/her own vote separately. - The jury will act in unison and will award the project by majority votes. If a member of the jury is also the designer of one of the selected pieces of work he/she may take part in the voting for all entries except his/her own. - The Award must be given and it cannot be given to two entries equally. - The jury has the right to assign any entry to a different category. - The Jury’s decision will not be open to appeal. 6. Co-operation All contestants agree to co-operate with the organization of the Ceramic Tile in Architecture and Interior Design Awards (ASCER) and provide access to press and other media as they may wish to interview them or to visit and to photograph their projects. No reproduction rights will be payable on any document submitted for the Awards and the information will be able to be used for publicity purposes (publications, exhibitions and in the media) 8. Return of work ASCER will return to the candidates who request it all documentation sent in (other than that in digital formats), with the exception of those designs that receive an award, a special mention or are otherwise specially selected, within a month from the announcement of the jury´s decision.
